Staying in Cornwall
| Tintagel Castle |
|
Tintagel Castle is a ruined fort situated on the West Coastline of Cornwall, a short walk from the town of Tintagel. The castle is famous for its spectacular position and because it is said to have been used by King Arthur. (Nowadays, the castle is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall) The walk from Tintagel starts at St Materiana's Church and an excellent path, suitable for wheelchairs takes you about a quarter mile up to the castle, right on the cliffs. Steps go down from here to the Castle Beach, a pebble beach perfect for bathing. You'll also find Merlin's Cave here. The Tintagel Castle information Centre has an exhibition and a shop where you can get hot and cold food. Details of prices can be found here. There are several interesting castles to visit in Cornwall. Oliver's Cornwall gives a good account and has excellent images of several of these. |
